Kentucky wildcats news
Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Pope has given an encouraging update on guard Otega Oweh, who has been sidelined with a turf toe injury during the offseason.
Oweh, who transferred to Kentucky with high expectations, missed several weeks of summer workouts as he worked through the issue. The injury raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming season, but Pope says the guard’s recovery is progressing well.
“Otega has been putting in the work with our medical staff, and he’s made great strides,” Pope said. “He’s been able to do some light work in practice, and while we’re being careful with him, the outlook is very positive. We expect him to be ready when the season tips off.”
The sophomore guard was one of the most anticipated additions to Kentucky’s roster, known for his athleticism, defensive toughness, and ability to attack the rim. His presence is expected to play a key role in the Wildcats’ backcourt depth and versatility.
Pope emphasized that while Oweh is eager to return, the staff will not rush his recovery. “The most important thing is having him healthy for the long haul. He’s a competitor, he wants to get back out there, but we’re going to make sure he’s 100 percent before he’s playing full minutes.”
With the season opener set for November, Kentucky fans are hopeful Oweh will be back in action, ready to contribute to what Pope is building as a new era of Wildcats basketball.
