Sophomore QB cleared for full-contact play, set to start vs. Kentucky on September 28
Columbia, S.C. – September 22, 2025
South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers has officially announced he will return to action this Saturday, September 28, for the highly anticipated SEC matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats.
Sellers made the announcement in a brief press conference Monday morning at the Gamecocks’ football facility, saying he has been fully cleared by team medical staff following a head injury sustained during the September 14 game against Vanderbilt.
“I’m feeling 100%. I’ve gone through all the protocol, and I’ve been taking full reps at practice this week,” Sellers said. “Coach Beamer and the staff have supported me every step, and I’m excited to get back out there with my team.”
The sophomore quarterback was removed in the first half against Vanderbilt after a hard hit resulted in a precautionary concussion evaluation. His absence was felt immediately, as South Carolina struggled offensively and ultimately fell 31–7 to the Commodores.
Head coach Shane Beamer confirmed that Sellers passed all neurological evaluations and completed full-contact practices on both Tuesday and Wednesday, fulfilling the program’s strict return-to-play policy.
“LaNorris is our guy. He showed a lot of patience and professionalism throughout this process,” Beamer said. “We’re confident in his readiness—physically and mentally.”
The Gamecocks (2–2) will look to bounce back in their home game vs. Kentucky (3–1) this Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 PM ET on the SEC Network.
