Cincinnati Reds news
CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Reds sensation Elly De La Cruz has broken his silence following the recent buzz surrounding manager Terry Francona’s potential replacement. With Francona sidelined by health concerns in recent weeks, speculation has swirled among fans and media about who might step in long-term to guide the young, energetic Reds roster.
Speaking to reporters after Sunday’s game, De La Cruz expressed both admiration for Francona and optimism for the club’s future.
“Tito [Francona] has meant a lot to us in such a short time,” De La Cruz said. “He’s a legend, and we respect everything he’s done. We just want him healthy first. Whoever the front office decides to bring in or trust, our job as players is to compete and give everything for this city.”
De La Cruz, often described as the face of the Reds’ rebuild, emphasized stability as a key factor for the team’s success.
“We’re young, we’re hungry, and we believe in what we’re building here. I know fans are worried, but we’re locked in. Coaches come and go, but the energy in this clubhouse is strong,” he added.
Francona, hired in late 2024 to replace David Bell, has brought a veteran presence and championship pedigree. However, his ongoing health issues have limited his availability, leaving bench coach Freddie Benavides to fill in during recent series.
Team officials have not made any announcements about a permanent replacement, but front-office sources say discussions are underway to ensure continuity as the Reds chase postseason contention.
For now, De La Cruz insists the players remain focused.
“We control what happens on the field. That’s where my mind is. We’re going to fight for every win,” he said with a smile.
The Reds fan base continues to watch closely, as questions about Francona’s future — and who might take his place if necessary — remain unanswered.
