Texas Rangers news
The Texas Rangers received disappointing news this week as rookie outfielder Wyatt Langford’s oblique injury has worsened, officially bringing his 2025 season to an early end.
Langford was forced to leave Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins with discomfort on his left side, and further evaluations confirmed that this was his third oblique setback of the year. The Rangers promptly placed him on the 10-day injured list, but with only a handful of games remaining and the team already out of postseason contention, the move effectively closes the book on his season.
Despite the frustrating finish, Langford was a bright spot in Texas’ lineup, quickly becoming one of the team’s most productive hitters. Over 134 games, the 23-year-old posted a .241 batting average with 22 home runs, 22 stolen bases, and a .775 OPS, while leading the Rangers in runs scored and total bases.
Manager Bruce Bochy expressed confidence in Langford’s long-term impact but acknowledged the setback: “It’s tough to see a young player go through something like this more than once in a season. The good news is that he’s got a full offseason ahead to recover and be ready to go for 2026.”
Langford, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, debuted in 2024 and quickly earned a reputation as one of baseball’s rising stars. While his first full season ends on a sour note, the Rangers remain optimistic that with rest and recovery, Langford will return stronger next year.
For now, Rangers fans will have to wait until spring to see their budding star back on the field.
