Louisville football opened its 2025 season in strong fashion this past weekend and made major moves on the recruiting trail. The Cardinals welcomed more than 80 recruits across multiple classes, signaling a push by new personnel chief Vince Marrow to elevate Louisville into one of the ACC’s premier recruiting programs. Among the visitors was a hometown prospect ranked as high as a 4-star and No. 109 nationally in the 2027 class.
On the basketball side, Louisville hosted Colben Landrew, a 4-star shooting guard who has emerged as one of Pat Kelsey’s top targets for the 2026 class. Landrew, now ranked as high as No. 17 overall and the No. 3 shooting guard, is considering multiple SEC programs, but Louisville’s inclusion in his top 10 and his official visit indicate momentum for the Cardinals.
Injury news has also surfaced ahead of the Cardinals’ Week 2 matchup against James Madison. Starting offensive tackle Trevonte Sylvester and backup tight end Nate Kurisky will remain sidelined after missing the season opener. However, running back Rodney Johnson Jr.—who injured his ankle against Eastern Kentucky—appears likely to return. Coach Jeff Brohm expressed optimism about Johnson’s availability.
Looking ahead, Louisville faces an important early-season test against James Madison, with analysts labeling it a “season-defining” contest. The program’s recruiting efforts and roster health will be critical as the Cardinals aim to establish themselves as serious ACC contenders.
