The St. Louis Blues set a high bar in their 2024–25 season, making it challenging to top their previous performance. The question for 2025–26 is: what should be considered a successful campaign?
Better record
Last season, the Blues secured the final Western Conference wild-card spot with a 44-30-8 record (96 points). Highlights included a franchise-record 12-game winning streak late in the season that propelled them into the playoffs. Achieving a better record would be a logical benchmark, though the Central Division remains strong, with rivals like Utah improving through the draft and Chicago making key offseason moves.
Deeper playoff run
A second-round playoff appearance could be the ideal target. In 2024–25, the Blues suffered a heartbreaking Game 7 loss to Winnipeg in the first round. With most of the roster returning and the likely addition of a healthy Dylan Holloway, advancing further in the postseason seems realistic.
Stanley Cup aspirations
Winning the Cup is the ultimate goal, though it remains a long shot. Like their unexpected 2018–19 championship run, the Blues could use their underdog status as motivation. General Manager Doug Armstrong has added important pieces to the roster, aiming to push beyond last year’s result.
While a championship would be ideal, the team shouldn’t consider 2025–26 a failure without one. Any step forward—whether a better record or deeper playoff run—would mark the season as a success.
