Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Faces Key Departures as New Season Approaches
LEXINGTON, Ky. — As the 2025–26 college basketball season draws closer, the Kentucky Wildcats are navigating a period of transition. Several familiar names have left the program, with head coach Mark Pope reshaping his roster through both the transfer portal and incoming recruits.
Among the notable departures, veteran guard Kerr Kriisa has entered the transfer portal and committed to the Cincinnati Bearcats. In addition, Travis Perry, one of the state’s homegrown talents, has transferred to Ole Miss. Both exits mark significant changes in Kentucky’s backcourt depth.
The Wildcats are also saying goodbye to players who have exhausted their eligibility, further reshaping the team’s identity heading into the new campaign.
Despite the losses, Kentucky has remained aggressive in rebuilding. The Wildcats have secured a strong transfer class, headlined by Jaland Lowe, Denzel Aberdeen, Mouhamed Dioubate, Kam Williams, Jayden Quaintance, and Reece Potter, who are all expected to make immediate contributions.
The departures of Kriisa and Perry create new opportunities for younger players and incoming transfers to step into larger roles. With a mix of experience and youth, the Wildcats remain poised to contend in the SEC while adjusting to a refreshed roster.
The upcoming season will be a test of how quickly Pope can integrate his new pieces, but Kentucky fans can expect a team with plenty of talent and upside despite losing a few familiar faces.
