Serial Rapist Caught in Beaumont: DNA Links Suspect to Cold Cases
Published: September 5, 2025
A man accused of a string of sexual assaults in Beaumont, Texas, has been arrested after DNA evidence tied him to multiple cold cases.
Eric J. Gipson Sr., 40, was taken into custody on August 21 following a joint investigation by the Texas Rangers and Beaumont Police Department. Authorities say he is connected to at least four attacks spanning from 2018 to 2024.
The investigation gained momentum after a September 2024 assault near a Beaumont gas station. Police say Gipson approached a woman, forced her behind a nearby church at knifepoint, and sexually assaulted her. DNA collected from that case was uploaded to the national CODIS database, which later matched evidence from three unsolved assaults in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
Detectives determined the cases were linked and identified Gipson as the suspect. On May 8, investigators obtained a DNA sample from him through Texas’ Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, a federally funded program designed to resolve long-standing cases. The Houston crime lab confirmed the match.
A Jefferson County grand jury indicted Gipson on August 20 on two counts of aggravated sexual assault and two counts of sexual assault. He was arrested the following day outside his workplace.
Authorities believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with information to contact Beaumont police at 409-832-1234.
