St. Louis blues news
St. Louis Blues chairman Tom Stillman has officially announced that veteran defenseman Ryan Suter will be transitioning into a new role within the organization, joining the team’s staff as a training coach.
Suter, 40, spent the past season with the Blues, bringing over two decades of NHL experience and a reputation as one of the league’s most dependable defensemen. While his playing career winds down, Stillman emphasized that Suter’s leadership, work ethic, and knowledge of the game will remain an invaluable asset to the franchise.
“Ryan has been a true professional throughout his career,” Stillman said in a statement. “His understanding of the game, preparation habits, and ability to mentor young players make him a perfect fit for our coaching and training staff. We’re excited to have him continue shaping the future of the Blues.”
In his new role, Suter will focus on player development and conditioning, particularly guiding the team’s younger defensemen and prospects as they adapt to the speed and physicality of the NHL. His experience with multiple playoff runs and international play is expected to provide the Blues’ locker room with a steadying presence, even from behind the bench.
For Suter, the move represents a natural next step. “I’ve loved every minute of my time on the ice, but I’m just as excited about helping the next generation of Blues players succeed,” he said. “This team has a bright future, and I’m honored to be part of it in this new capacity.”
The announcement comes at a time when the Blues are preparing to retool for the upcoming season, leaning on a mix of youth and veteran guidance. With Suter now in a training and mentorship role, the organization hopes his influence will help foster consistency and competitiveness both on and off the ice.
