Texas Rangers fans get critical of manager Bruce Bochy after loss against the Houston Astros
By Glenn Kaplan | September 16, 2025
The Texas Rangers began a pivotal three-game series against the Houston Astros on Monday night, trailing Houston by just two games in the standings. However, a 6–3 loss pushed the Rangers further behind in the race for a playoff spot.
With the win, the Astros improved to 82–69, while the Rangers dropped to 79–72. Houston is now only half a game behind the Seattle Mariners for the top spot in the AL West, while Texas now trails Houston by three games.
The loss sparked criticism from Rangers fans, who voiced frustration with manager Bruce Bochy. Despite leading the team to a World Series title in 2023, Bochy’s recent decisions have come under scrutiny. Fans are increasingly worried that Texas could miss the playoffs for a second consecutive season.
Although there’s still time to turn things around, the margin for error is small. The Rangers must win the next two games in the series to keep their postseason hopes alive. Another loss would significantly weaken their chances.
Bochy, 70, is in the final year of the three-year contract he signed in the 2022 offseason. If the Rangers do decide to retain him beyond this season, it’s likely to be on a short-term deal—possibly just one year—given the current circumstances.
