The St. Louis Blues have entered a period of significant roster transition, parting ways with several players while continuing to evaluate the future of key contributors.
Confirmed Departures
The most notable move came in late January when forward Brandon Saad and the Blues agreed to mutually terminate his contract, ending his tenure in St. Louis. Saad cleared waivers and became a free agent, a decision that opened cap flexibility for the organization.
Other departures followed during the offseason. Veterans Ryan Suter, Radek Faksa, and MacKenzie MacEachern, along with younger players Tanner Dickinson, Anton Malmström, and Corey Andonovski, were not re-signed and subsequently hit the open market. In addition, defenseman Nick Leddy was waived in July, closing the door on another chapter of the team’s veteran core.
The club also completed a minor-league trade in February, sending Mathias Laferrière to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Corey Andonovski.
New Additions
In contrast, the Blues have bolstered their depth with a series of two-way signings. Forward Matt Luff, defenseman Hunter Skinner, and goaltender Vadim Zherenko all joined the team to provide flexibility between the NHL and AHL rosters.
Ongoing Speculation
While the organization has already moved on from several familiar names, the biggest storyline still surrounds forward Jordan Kyrou. Long considered a cornerstone of the Blues’ attack, Kyrou has been linked to trade rumors throughout the offseason, with reports tying him to the Montreal Canadiens.
However, recent updates suggest that St. Louis is not actively shopping the speedy winger despite the speculation. For now, Kyrou remains with the club as management weighs long-term cap implications and the development of younger talents such as Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg.
Looking Ahead
With key veterans departing and trade discussions continuing in the background, the Blues appear to be striking a balance between cap management, player development, and maintaining competitiveness. How the Kyrou situation unfolds could determine the trajectory of the club’s roster overhaul moving forward.
