St. Louis blues news
The St. Louis Blues enter the 2025–26 season at a crossroads. Last year, the team exceeded expectations by reaching the playoffs and pushing the Presidents’ Trophy–winning Winnipeg Jets to the brink in the first round. Although they ultimately fell short, their effort was widely seen as a success.
This season, however, expectations are higher. Anything short of another playoff berth would be considered a major disappointment—and could spark significant roster changes.
Rumors have circulated for months about possible trades involving star forward Jordan Kyrou and captain Brayden Schenn, though the Blues have resisted moving them so far. Still, if the team struggles, management may be tempted to follow the path of other clubs and initiate a retooling process, dealing away veteran assets to build one of the youngest cores in the league.
The timing could make such a decision even more tempting. The upcoming draft class is projected to be one of the strongest in recent years, with highly touted prospect Gavin McKenna leading the way. A poor season might actually benefit the Blues, positioning them for a high draft pick and possibly a franchise-altering selection.
While the ideal scenario would see St. Louis contend for a deep playoff run, the reality is that a slow start—especially if the team lingers near the bottom third of the standings by Thanksgiving—could push the organization toward a reset.
For the Blues, the 2025–26 campaign could either mark the start of a serious run at contention or a turning point toward reshaping the franchise’s future.
