Kentucky wildcats news
Kentucky guard Jaland Lowe hasn’t shied away from reflecting on the differences between his new home in Lexington and his former stop at Pittsburgh. In fact, the sophomore transfer has been open in saying that, for him, Kentucky is simply “better in most ways.”
Lowe, who earned All-ACC Third Team honors last season despite playing through a broken finger, explained that his time at Pitt helped him grow — but he often felt forced into difficult situations.
“At Pitt, I had to take a lot of tough shots and carry more of the offense,” Lowe said. “Here at Kentucky, I feel like the system, the spacing, and the talent around me make everything flow so much better. It’s a big difference.”
The 6’3” guard praised head coach Mark Pope’s philosophy, noting that it plays to his strengths as both a playmaker and a scorer.
“Coach Pope wants me to lead, but I don’t have to force things the way I did before. I can focus on making the right plays. That’s why I feel like this is a better fit for me.”
Lowe also highlighted the culture and fan support that Kentucky provides compared to his previous stop.
“It’s hard to compare the Big Blue Nation to anything else,” Lowe added. “The energy here is unmatched, and the expectations are exactly what I wanted — to compete for championships every year.”
While he expressed gratitude for his time at Pitt, Lowe made it clear that Kentucky represents the step forward he was looking for. With a deep roster and high expectations, he believes the Wildcats will help him maximize his potential.
“At the end of the day, Kentucky gives me the best chance to win and grow as a player. That’s why I’m here, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
For Lowe, the move feels like a homecoming of sorts — a full-circle moment where he’s not only wearing the blue he admired growing up, but thriving in it.
