Rangers Sign Former Twin Donovan Solano Amid Infield Injury Crisis
By Joshua crested | September 10, 2025
The Texas Rangers have added veteran infielder Donovan Solano on a minor league deal, following key injuries to stars Marcus Semien and Corey Seager.
Solano, recently released by the Seattle Mariners, hit .252/.295/.344 in 69 games this season before being let go to make room for catching prospect Harry Ford. According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers saw an opportunity to add experienced infield depth at a crucial time.
🔹 Rangers’ Infield in Crisis
- Marcus Semien has been ruled out for the rest of the regular season with a left foot fracture, per Kennedi Landry.
- Corey Seager remains out after an emergency appendectomy on August 28, though there is hope he’ll return for Texas’ final homestand.
Though Solano won’t be eligible for the postseason roster due to his late signing, he could still be a valuable piece in the Rangers’ push for a playoff spot. Texas currently trails the Mariners—the team that released Solano—by just 1.5 games for the final American League Wild Card position.
If added to the 28-man roster before season’s end, Solano may get a shot at helping the Rangers edge out his former team.
🔹 Solano’s Veteran Journey
Solano, 37, made his MLB debut with the Marlins in 2012 and has compiled a 7.8 career fWAR. His career includes stints with:
- Marlins (2012–15)
- Yankees (briefly in 2016)
- Giants (2019–21)
- Reds (2022)
- Twins (2023)
- Padres (2024)
- Mariners (2025)
He was a key contributor to the Twins’ 2023 postseason run, offering strong on-base skills (.369 OBP) and defensive flexibility across first, second, and third base.
Looking ahead, the Twins may even consider bringing Solano back in 2026, as his veteran presence, versatility, and affordability could be valuable to their clubhouse.
