St. Louis Cardinals news
St. Louis, MO – Legendary catcher Yadier Molina addressed growing speculation about his potential future as manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, offering both humility and perspective on the matter. While Molina confirmed that he has not been formally approached by the organization about replacing current manager Oli Marmol, he made it clear that his bond with the Cardinals runs deep.
“I haven’t been approached officially about managing here,” Molina said. “But I appreciate the support and even just hearing my name connected to this team in that way. The Cardinals are my family, and I’ll always love this organization.”
Molina, a two-time World Series champion and 10-time All-Star, has already begun preparing for life as a coach and leader off the field. He will manage Puerto Rico’s national team in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, a role he described as an invaluable chance to sharpen his managerial skills and gain experience at the highest level of international competition.
“It’s important to keep learning,” Molina added. “Managing Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic will be a big challenge, and I know it will help me grow. If the opportunity ever comes here in St. Louis, I want to be as ready as possible.”
For now, the Cardinals have stood by current manager Oli Marmol, with ownership recently reiterating their support. Still, with Molina’s name repeatedly surfacing in fan conversations and media chatter, the door remains open for the franchise icon to eventually take on a dugout leadership role.
Molina’s occasional appearances in the Cardinals dugout this season as a guest coach have only fueled speculation. His presence has been welcomed by players, who credit him with providing invaluable mentorship, particularly to the pitching staff and young catchers.
While nothing official has materialized, Molina’s comments signal both patience and passion. He is eager to continue gathering experience, but the idea of leading the Cardinals—his home for nearly two decades—clearly holds a special place in his heart.
