Canadiens’ Pursuit of Jordan Kyrou: Analyst Reveals Asking Price
The Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues completed a notable trade this offseason, swapping former first-round picks Zack Bolduc and Logan Mailloux in a one-for-one deal.
However, reports suggest the two teams originally explored a much larger transaction involving Blues star winger Jordan Kyrou. Kyrou’s name surfaced in trade rumors throughout the summer, with Montreal frequently linked as a potential landing spot.
According to analyst Marco Normandin on the Poolcast, the Blues were prepared to discuss Kyrou, but the asking price was steep. He revealed that St. Louis would have required promising young defenseman Kaiden Guhle as part of any deal.
Normandin explained: “At first, it was a bigger transaction. Mailloux and Bolduc were included, but they couldn’t reach an agreement on the Kyrou part. From what I’ve been told by a well-informed source, it would have cost Guhle if they wanted Kyrou.”
Kyrou, 27, is entering the third season of his eight-year, $65 million contract signed in 2022. His no-trade clause took effect on July 1, further complicating any potential move.
For Montreal, acquiring Kyrou would have added another elite winger, but given their current depth with Cole Caufield, Ivan Demidov, Patrik Laine, and Juraj Slafkovsky, paying the price of moving Guhle did not make sense.
While the Canadiens and Blues could revisit trade talks in the future, any potential deal will ultimately depend on Kyrou’s willingness to approve a move.
