Rangers Predicted to Sign $46 Million Two-Time All-Star Closer After Finishing Among MLB’s Worst in Blown Saves
The Texas Rangers ended their 2025 season with a disappointing 81–81 record. Although they were in contention for a Wild Card spot, one major issue consistently held them back — closing out games.
Texas ranked third in Major League Baseball for the most blown saves, recording 29. According to Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, the Rangers are expected to fix that problem by pursuing San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez, a two-time All-Star who could command around $46 million in free agency.
“With Emmanuel Clase suspended and Ryan Helsley moved out of a closer role, Suarez’s 76 saves since early 2024 lead the majors,” Miller wrote. “Despite owning the third-best run differential in the American League, the Rangers went 81–81. That happens when you have 29 blown saves and no reliever reaching 10 saves. We urged them to sign a legitimate closer last offseason — they didn’t, and they paid the price.”
Suarez wrapped up his 2025 campaign with a 2.97 ERA, 75 strikeouts, a 0.904 WHIP, and 40 saves — exactly the type of performance the Rangers’ bullpen lacked.
The Rangers already have the pieces of a championship-caliber team: a strong rotation, a capable lineup, and solid bullpen depth. The missing link is a dependable closer who can protect late-game leads. Securing Suarez could easily turn several of those 29 blown saves into wins — potentially pushing Texas back into playoff contention and back to the form that won them the 2023 World Series.
