Rangers Desperately Need Adolis García Back at Full Strength for Astros Series
The Texas Rangers have kept outfielder Adolis García off the injured list, despite him missing the past two games with a quad strain suffered Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Texas dropped both contests, and his absence has been felt in a lineup that has managed just three runs over that stretch.
The Rangers begin a crucial series against the Houston Astros on Friday, and the hope is García will be available. However, the team needs more than his 2025 production—they need the version of García that dominated the Astros last season and shined during the 2023 ALCS, where he won MVP honors with five home runs and 15 RBI in seven games.
Texas remains in the AL Wild Card hunt with a 72–69 record and still has an outside shot at the AL West crown, currently led by Houston. A sweep of the Astros this weekend would significantly improve their playoff positioning. That’s why the Rangers have avoided placing García on the 10-day IL, even though he has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain. The team believes he might still provide value, even in a limited role.
So far this season, García has struggled both overall and against Houston. He is hitting .235 with 18 homers and 73 RBI, and just .222 against the Astros. Still, his past performances show why Texas is holding out hope. Last season, he batted .277 against Houston with 13 hits and seven RBI. His playoff dominance against the Astros two years ago remains fresh in the team’s memory.
If García can summon that level of play again, the Rangers’ chances of turning their season around and making a strong postseason push increase dramatically.
