Yankees star on it again…!!
CHICAGO — Aaron Judge joined legendary Yankee Yogi Berra on the franchise’s all-time home run leaderboard Sunday, hitting his 358th career homer in a 3–2 loss to the White Sox.
“That’s special,” Judge said after the game. “To tie one of the greatest Yankees ever in homers — the way Yogi played, what he meant to the pinstripes — it’s an honor. I feel the same pride wearing this jersey, so it’s pretty cool to be on that list with him.”
Judge, who now has 43 home runs this season, sits tied for fifth in club history. Next on the list is Joe DiMaggio at 361, followed by Lou Gehrig (493), Mickey Mantle (536), and Babe Ruth (659).
Manager Aaron Boone praised his star slugger: “It’s the company he belongs in. He’s earned his way into those names. He’s as good as we’ve seen in this generation.”
Judge has homered in two straight games and three of his last five, showing signs of heating up after a slow stretch since returning from an elbow injury. His August total of six home runs was his lowest in any month this year, but the Yankees are hoping he’s finding his form just in time for September’s playoff push.
He nearly passed Berra outright in the same game, missing a second homer by just a few feet — settling instead for a double off the center field wall before scoring on a Cody Bellinger hit.
“I haven’t been getting on base enough lately,” Judge admitted. “So anytime I can get out there and let Belli drive me in, it’s a good day.”
Boone remains confident Judge will soon take off: “He’ll get there. A couple good at-bats, back-to-back games with homers — hopefully that’s what really gets him going.”
