Braves Expected to Pursue Big-Name Shortstop in Offseason
After a disappointing season, the Atlanta Braves are widely expected to make significant changes to their roster during the upcoming offseason in hopes of returning to serious playoff contention. While they still have a strong core in place, it’s become clear that relying solely on their top stars isn’t enough.
One of the most pressing concerns is the shortstop position. Since Dansby Swanson departed for the Cubs in free agency, Atlanta has struggled to find a long-term solution. Although Orlando Arcia had one standout season, the position has remained a weakness—especially on offense. Defensive replacements like Nick Allen haven’t shown enough at the plate to justify a starting role moving forward.
With no immediate internal options ready to take over, the Braves will likely need to address the issue through a free-agent signing or trade before the 2026 season begins.
One name already being linked to Atlanta is Bo Bichette, the talented shortstop from the Toronto Blue Jays, who is expected to hit free agency. According to MLB insider Mark Feinsand, the Braves are among the teams seen as a strong fit for Bichette, given their need and competitive timeline.
Whether through Bichette or another acquisition, upgrading at shortstop appears to be a top priority for a Braves team eager to reassert itself as a National League powerhouse.
