Matt Rempe could finally fight Milan Lucic
The St. Louis Blues have given veteran forward Milan Lucic a professional tryout, marking his first attempt at an NHL return since the 2023-24 season. Lucic has been away from the league due to an ankle injury, legal issues involving a domestic violence arrest, and participation in the NHL’s player assistance program. He will need to prove himself at the Blues’ upcoming training camp to earn a contract.
If he does secure a roster spot, he could potentially face New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe, who previously named Lucic as the player he most wanted to fight during an autograph session last summer. Known for challenging the league’s toughest enforcers, Rempe has faced the likes of Mathieu Olivier, Ryan Reaves, Arber Xhekaj, Nicolas Deslauriers, and Dylan McIlrath. Adding Lucic to that list would further solidify his reputation as one of the NHL’s most fearless fighters.
While Lucic, now 37, may not be as dominant as in his prime, he remains a formidable opponent. For this matchup to happen, however, several conditions must align: Lucic must earn a spot with St. Louis, be in the lineup when the Blues face the Rangers, and Rempe must also secure a consistent NHL role after splitting time between the minors and New York last season.
The chances of the highly anticipated fight are slim—but far from impossible.
