Indiana University Football Field Renamed After $50 Million Naming Rights Deal
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University’s football team is entering a new era—both on the field and in name. Following their College Football Playoff appearance last season, the Hoosiers’ home turf now has a new title: Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium.
The name change comes after Carmel-based Merchants Bank signed a $50 million agreement spanning 20 years to secure naming rights. The deal is the largest donation in the company’s history.
Merchants Bank CEO and IU alumnus Mike Petrie said the team’s 11-1 season under head coach Curt Cignetti played a major role in the decision. “I’ve always wanted to be part of IU athletics in this way,” Petrie said. “But if they had gone 4-7, we wouldn’t be standing here today.”
IU Athletic Director Scott Dolson was thrilled by the deal, recalling the moment he received Petrie’s commitment. “I was at dinner on Kirkwood Avenue when I got the call. I literally did a dance outside the restaurant,” he said.
According to Dolson, the funds will primarily support player development, coaching, and stadium maintenance. The agreement also includes a commitment from Merchants Bank to provide financial literacy education to IU athletes.
The Hoosiers will debut the newly named field in their season opener on August 30, when they face Old Dominion.
