Bill DeWitt Jr. Reverses Course — Oli Marmol to Return as Cardinals Manager in 2026
St. Louis, MO – November 12, 2025
In a surprising move, St. Louis Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt Jr. has decided to retain Oli Marmol as the team’s manager for the 2026 season, reversing earlier speculation that a change was imminent.
Despite the Cardinals missing the playoffs for a second straight year, DeWitt expressed confidence in Marmol’s leadership and vision, saying he remains “the right person to guide the next phase of the team’s development.”
President of Baseball Operations Chaim Bloom echoed the sentiment, noting Marmol’s growth as a leader and his commitment to developing younger players as the club transitions toward a new era.
The decision signals a desire for stability amid the organization’s rebuilding process, even as the team prepares to part ways with veterans like Nolan Arenado and Sonny Gray.
“I’m grateful for the trust from Bill and the organization,” Marmol said. “This city deserves a winning team, and we’re going to work hard to bring that back.”
Marmol, who has managed the Cardinals since 2022, will enter his fifth season in 2026 — a year that could define both his tenure and the team’s future direction.
