BREAKING NEWS: Yadier Molina Makes Big Announcement on MLB Return

November 11, 2025 — St. Louis Cardinals

St. Louis Cardinals legend Yadier Molina has officially confirmed that he is preparing for a return to Major League Baseball — but not as a player. The longtime catcher, who retired after the 2022 season, announced his intention to rejoin MLB in a coaching or managerial role, reigniting excitement among Cardinals fans and across the league.

In an interview with El Nuevo Día in Puerto Rico earlier this week, Molina stated that he feels “ready to return” to the majors in a new capacity.

“Baseball has always been my life,” Molina said. “I’ve taken time with my family, coached in Puerto Rico, and stayed close to the game. Now, I feel ready to come back and help a team win — whether that’s as a bench coach, a manager, or whatever role helps the organization.”

Molina has spent the past two years managing in Puerto Rico’s Winter League, leading Navegantes del Magallanes and later Leones de Ponce, while also serving as a coach for Puerto Rico’s national team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. His growing reputation as a sharp, disciplined leader has sparked consistent speculation about his MLB coaching future.

Rumors of a possible reunion with the St. Louis Cardinals have persisted for months. While Cardinals President of Baseball Operations Chaim Bloom has not confirmed any formal discussions, he recently praised Molina’s baseball mind and deep ties to the organization.

“Yadi is one of the smartest, most respected players of his generation,” Bloom said. “He will always have a place in the Cardinals family.”

Molina, who spent 19 seasons with the Cardinals, is widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive catchers in MLB history. A 10-time All-Star, nine-time Gold Glove winner, and two-time World Series champion, he retired with over 2,000 games caught — all for St. Louis.

While he made it clear he’s not planning a playing comeback, Molina’s statement signals that his next chapter in baseball is about to begin.

“I’m ready to wear a uniform again,” he said. “Not behind the plate — but in the dugout.”

For now, fans will be watching closely to see whether Molina’s return happens in St. Louis, or if another MLB team will bring the legendary catcher into their coaching staff ahead of the 2026 season.
