Texas Rangers made one of the first major moves of the offseason by trading All-Star second baseman Marcus Semien to the New York Mets in exchange for outfielder Brandon Nimmo. With Semien gone, the team now needs a new option at second base.
According to Robert Murray of Fansided, three-time All-Star and former batting champion Luis Arraez could be an ideal fit. Murray noted that Arraez, who recently played for the San Diego Padres, would immediately strengthen the Rangers’ lineup. While his defensive abilities are limited, his contact hitting and on-base skills would significantly boost an offense that struggled last season.
Arraez, 28, posted a .292/.327/.392 slash line in 154 games last season, adding 30 doubles, eight home runs and 61 RBI. His consistent approach at the plate could provide the stability Texas needs as it looks to remain competitive.
The Rangers will face competition from other teams seeking Arraez, but they may have an advantage: new Texas manager Skip Schumacher previously managed Arraez with the Miami Marlins. That relationship could help the Rangers in their pursuit.
Texas aims to strengthen its roster and return to championship form, and adding a hitter of Arraez’s caliber would move them in that direction.
