Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber Projected for $145 Million Contract Ahead of Free Agency

The Philadelphia Phillies wrapped up a strong season, winning their division before falling to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS. As the offseason begins, the team faces several key decisions about their pending free agents.
One of the biggest questions surrounds MVP candidate Kyle Schwarber. According to The Athletic’s Tim Britton, Schwarber is projected to receive a five-year, $145 million contract on the open market.
Britton compared Schwarber’s situation to that of J.D. Martínez when he signed a five-year, $110 million deal with the Boston Red Sox in 2018. Adjusted for the current market, that type of contract would approach $29 million per year in 2026. Britton believes Schwarber could even surpass $30 million annually on a shorter-term deal but expects a five-year agreement to be most realistic.
This season, Schwarber posted a .240 batting average, .365 on-base percentage, and .563 slugging percentage (.928 OPS). He recorded 23 doubles, 56 home runs, and 132 RBIs over 162 games—numbers that put him firmly in the NL MVP conversation alongside Shohei Ohtani.
The Phillies now face a difficult decision about whether to retain Schwarber or allocate resources elsewhere. Fellow All-Star Ranger Suárez is also projected to command a major contract this offseason, which could impact Philadelphia’s ability to re-sign both players.
Whichever direction the team takes, both Schwarber and Suárez are expected to draw strong interest from other contenders once free agency opens.
