Kyle Schwarber Expected to Land $165 Million Deal in Free Agency
November 11, 2025 — Philadelphia, PA
After producing the best season of his career, Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber is entering free agency with expectations of a major payday.
The Phillies once again fell short in the postseason, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS — the same Dodgers who went on to win the World Series. Now, Philadelphia’s front office faces key roster decisions as one of its cornerstone players hits the open market.
Schwarber, 32, delivered a career year in 2025, blasting 56 home runs and driving in 132 RBIs while slashing .240/.365/.563. According to Baseball Reference, his performance was worth 4.7 WAR, placing him among the league’s elite power hitters and likely earning him MVP consideration.
His breakout season came at an ideal time. Entering free agency at an age where many sluggers begin to decline, Schwarber instead boosted his value and eliminated doubts about his long-term effectiveness.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Schwarber is projected to command a four-year, $140 million contract, averaging $35 million per season. Several of his former clubs — the Phillies, Boston Red Sox, and Chicago Cubs — are reportedly among the top contenders to sign him.
“Some teams don’t have a need for a designated hitter, but everyone loves Schwarber’s power,” Heyman wrote. “That includes the Phillies, Red Sox, and his original team, the Cubs.”
Schwarber’s limited mobility means he is best suited for a designated hitter role rather than regular outfield duty, but his bat remains one of the most feared in baseball. In 11 seasons, he has hit for tremendous power but has just 37 career stolen bases, making him a one-dimensional offensive weapon.
Still, his ability to change games with one swing ensures that any team seeking a reliable power source will be willing to pay a premium. Whether he stays in Philadelphia or signs elsewhere, Schwarber’s next deal will likely rank among the largest of this offseason.
