PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski has addressed growing speculation surrounding the team’s plans to re-sign slugger Kyle Schwarber, making it clear the club would like to keep the veteran outfielder in red pinstripes — if that’s what Schwarber wants.
“Kyle’s not only an outstanding talent, but he’s also a genuine leader,” Dombrowski said in a recent media session. “We’d love for him to stay in Philadelphia for years to come. We hope to keep him as a Phillie, but ultimately, it depends on what Kyle wants and how things play out.”
Schwarber, who is entering the final year of his current contract, has been one of the team’s most consistent offensive performers since joining the Phillies in 2022. His leadership and clubhouse presence have also been repeatedly praised by Dombrowski and manager Rob Thomson.

While Dombrowski expressed confidence in the organization’s relationship with Schwarber, he stopped short of confirming that extension talks are underway. The executive acknowledged the business realities of free agency, noting that other clubs are likely to pursue the power-hitting lefty this offseason.
“We can’t say a bad thing about Kyle — he’s been everything we hoped for and more,” Dombrowski said. “We’d love to have him back, but these things aren’t always easy. We’ll see where it goes.”
Schwarber has publicly stated his affection for Philadelphia and its fans, suggesting he would be open to staying. Still, with his market value expected to rise, the decision could come down to whether the Phillies can match competing offers.
For now, both sides appear content to focus on the season — but it’s clear the Phillies’ front office views Schwarber as a cornerstone player they’d like to keep in the fold.
