Dave Dombrowski Addresses Status of Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto Contract Talks
Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has spoken publicly about the team’s efforts to retain stars Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto, offering clarity but stopping short of announcing any completed deals.
During a media session this week, Dombrowski confirmed that the Phillies remain actively engaged in discussions with the representatives of both players. He emphasized that the organization considers Schwarber and Realmuto central to its long-term competitive plans.
“We want both of them here, and we’re working toward that,” Dombrowski said. “Conversations have been positive, but these things take time. Our goal is always to keep our core together.”
Schwarber Negotiations Progressing
Schwarber is coming off a historic 2025 season in which he hit 56 home runs and finished second in National League MVP voting. Multiple league insiders, including ESPN’s Jeff Passan, have identified the Phillies as the favorites to re-sign the slugger.
Dombrowski would not reveal specific figures but confirmed that the team has made an offer and remains in “regular communication” with Schwarber’s camp.
Realmuto Staying in Touch With Organization
Veteran catcher J.T. Realmuto, who recently expressed optimism about contract discussions, is also a priority. Dombrowski echoed Realmuto’s earlier comments, noting that talks have been “constructive.”
“J.T. has been a leader for us on and off the field. We absolutely want him back,” Dombrowski said.
No Deals Finalized Yet
While Dombrowski addressed the progress being made, he made it clear that neither player has been officially re-signed.
“Until paperwork is done, nothing is final,” he noted. “But we’re committed, and both sides are working toward the same outcome.”
For now, Phillies fans can take encouragement from the positive tone on both fronts, even as formal announcements remain pending.
