BREAKING NEWS: Bryce Harper Trade Deal: Phillies Makes Bigger Demands For Harper

Wild Trade Proposal Sends Bryce Harper to Cubs for Two Prospects

Published: November 7, 2025

The Philadelphia Phillies’ season ended in disappointment after another strong regular-season showing failed to translate into postseason success. Since reaching the World Series in 2022, the team has struggled to return, leaving star slugger Bryce Harper still searching for his first championship ring.

There has been speculation about whether Harper can remain an elite player as he ages. Phillies president Dave Dombrowski reportedly questioned that earlier this offseason, sparking debate over whether the franchise should consider a major shake-up.

A recent trade proposal from Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer suggested a dramatic move: sending Harper to the Chicago Cubs.

Proposed Trade:

  • Phillies receive: Outfielder Owen Caissie (Cubs’ top prospect) and right-handed pitcher Jaxon Wiggins (Cubs’ No. 3 prospect)
  • Cubs receive: Outfielder/first baseman Bryce Harper

Harper, a two-time MVP, eight-time All-Star, and four-time Silver Slugger, has played first base in recent seasons but has expressed willingness to return to the outfield. Despite his star power, he is coming off a down year and still has six years remaining on his 13-year, $330 million contract — a deal with no opt-outs.

The proposal has raised eyebrows, as the return of only two prospects seems light for a player of Harper’s caliber, even considering his age and salary. Harper would also have to approve any trade, as he has full control over his future with the Phillies.
