The Philadelphia Phillies are heading into the offseason with four major free agents. Harrison Bader and Ranger Suárez are expected to depart, but Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto remain strong candidates to return.
A recent report from Jen McCaffrey and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic says the Boston Red Sox have interest in Realmuto, raising some concern that Philadelphia could lose its longtime catcher. However, the same report also delivered encouraging news for the Phillies: despite Boston’s interest, Philadelphia is still viewed as the leading contender to re-sign Realmuto.
McCaffrey and Rosenthal wrote:
“The best guess with Realmuto is that he will still re-sign with the Philadelphia Phillies, his team since 2019.”
They added that it would be surprising if Realmuto signed anywhere else. Even with other teams monitoring his situation, the Phillies remain in the strongest position to bring him back.
Realmuto, now 34, has been with the Phillies since 2019 and has earned two All-Star selections during his time in Philadelphia. He has been a key part of the team’s pitching success while also contributing solid offensive production.

Re-signing Realmuto is one of the Phillies’ biggest offseason priorities, and the latest reporting suggests that a reunion remains the most likely outcome—even with the Red Sox involved.
