Could the Blues Lose Alexandre Texier to Waivers Before the 2025–26 Season?
The St. Louis Blues acquired Alexandre Texier from the Columbus Blue Jackets last summer, giving up a fourth-round pick and signing the 24-year-old forward to a two-year, $2.1 million contract. Texier was coming off a career-best season with 12 goals, 18 assists, and 30 points in 78 games.
However, his first year in St. Louis didn’t go as planned. He played only 31 games, tallying six goals and five assists while averaging a career-low 12:29 of ice time. Injuries and frequent healthy scratches kept him out of 51 games.
Heading into training camp, Texier faces an uphill battle to secure a roster spot. Offseason signings Pius Suter and Nick Bjugstad, the emergence of Jimmy Snuggerud, and the potential debut of Justin Carbonneau could push him out of the regular lineup.
Texier, a second-round pick in 2017, has 90 points in 232 career games and can play both wings. At 6-foot-1 and left-handed, he offers size and versatility, but his future in St. Louis appears uncertain. If the Blues try to send him to the AHL, they risk losing him on waivers—though his $2.1 million cap hit might deter some teams. Still, with training camp roster battles across the league, the Blues could slip him through without a claim.
