Injuries Raise Concerns Over Lions’ Roster Depth Before Season
The Detroit Lions are dealing with a growing number of injuries just weeks ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Several key players have been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, raising concerns about the team’s depth and ability to develop chemistry during training camp.
Among the most notable injuries is left tackle Taylor Decker, a veteran lineman who has anchored the offensive line for years. His absence, paired with the recent retirement of center Frank Ragnow, leaves the Lions’ protection schemes in a precarious state as they prepare to safeguard quarterback Jared Goff with a restructured line.
Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez, another important piece of the defense, is also sidelined. Known for his versatility, Rodriguez’s injury not only affects the linebacker rotation but also limits contributions on special teams.
The offensive line has taken another hit with rookie guard Miles Frazier unable to practice, slowing his development and narrowing the team’s options along the interior.
In the secondary, cornerback Khalil Dorsey is also on the PUP list. While not a projected starter, Dorsey was expected to compete for a depth role in a defensive backfield already dealing with concerns about consistency and health.
These injuries have come at a crucial time, as the team attempts to finalize its roster, install schemes, and build continuity. Head coach Dan Campbell acknowledged the challenges but emphasized caution in rushing players back.
“We’ve got a lot of guys banged up right now,” Campbell said. “It’s next man up. We’ll keep pushing, but we have to be smart about when guys return.”
With preseason games approaching and roster cuts looming, how the Lions respond to these setbacks may determine whether they start the season strong—or struggle out of the gate.
