On Thursday, the Arizona Coyotes traded a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenseman Troy Stecher and a 2024 seventh-round draft pick.
The Boston Bruins originally owned the seventh-round selection that was being sent from Arizona to Edmonton.
For the third consecutive season, Stecher, who turns 30 on April 7, was dealt before the NHL trade deadline. He was dealt by the Coyotes to the Calgary Flames in 2023 and by the Detroit Red Wings to the Los Angeles Kings in 2022. He signed a one-year contract and returned to Arizona last summer.
Throughout 47 games with Arizona this season, Stecher recorded one goal and four assists. This season, he has skated 18:26 on average, which is his highest season average since playing for the Vancouver Canucks in 2018–19.
Over the course of eight seasons and 487 games, Stecher has played for five different teams and recorded 108 points (19 goals, 89 assists), 550 blocked shots, and 510 hits.
With no transactions during a calm week leading up to Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline, the Arizona Coyotes have made their first move of the season today.
