Kata, who was born in Neiafu, Tonga, moved to Auckland, New Zealand, in 2011 to attend Sacred Heart College on a rugby scholarship. Rugby league clubs were immediately impressed by his extraordinary skills, and he was soon playing for the New Zealand Warriors and then the Melbourne Storm before switching to the 15-man code.
After that, Kata’s adventure brought him to Canberra, Australia, where he played for the Brumbies for two seasons and teamed up with former Chief Nic White. He became a member of Moana Pasifika for the 2022 Super Rugby campaign.
