Offseason rumors have linked defensive end Danielle Hunter, Danielle Hunter, a pending free agency, to the Detroit Lions. Therefore, it was hardly shocking when Ben Goessling of The Star Tribune mentioned that the Lions showed interest in Hunter during the NFL combine in the Access Vikings podcast episode that aired on February 28.
But Andrew Krammer of The Star Tribune, his co-host, questioned whether such interest was sincere. According to Krammer’s theory, the Lions might be expressing interest in Hunter in order to increase the 29-year-old’s asking price in the free agent market.
Krammer asked, “How much of that is true? How much of that is just a division rival trying to do a smart thing of up a market of a guy they are trying to get the heck out of here? “[The Lions] would obviously want Danielle [Hunter] to either have as many suitors as possible so that he can have a high enough market that either hurts the Vikings’ salary cap situation or just gets him out of there. Which is what you’d want as a division rival.” Goessling and Krammer stated that the Bears are also interested in Hunter, but they also hinted that the Bears might be trying to increase the defensive end’s asking price.
