According to Seb Ecrivain Foot, Leeds United have begun talks to recruit West Ham defender Ben Johnson this month.
The LBCDS journalist says on his own Twitter account (13 January) that the Whites are keen on signing the Hammers ace after allowing Djed Spence and Luke Ayling to depart the club.
And conversations regarding a possible transfer are ongoing, with Johnson’s contract at the London Stadium scheduled to expire at the end of the season.
“Leeds is closely interested in West Ham’s defender, Ben Johnson,” he stated in an email.
“Discussions are underway for a possible move.”
Strong
Johnson is a highly seasoned player in his early years of his career, which is a very rare mix and typically the best thing for a Championship club.
Since his “absolutely brilliant” debut in 2021, the player has been vying for regular first-team football, but he is currently second in line to Vladimir Coufal under David Moyes.
With his contract at the club expiring, this could be the last chance for the Hammers to cash in on him, and Leeds could pounce for a low-cost deal that would considerably improve the team while also bringing in some experience.
It remains to be seen whether the player would be willing to move down to the Championship, but he will be aware that Leeds are battling hard for promotion and that his presence may make the difference in returning to the Premier League quickly.
If Daniel Farke can make it off, it will be a tremendous acquisition, and this is one to keep an eye on in the coming days and weeks before the transfer window closes.
