They’re short on confidence and soldiers, but Warriors coach Andrew Webster is ‘100 percent convinced’ his team can turn their season around against the Panthers this week.
The injuries to standout combination Shaun Johnson and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck could not have come at a worse time for the Warriors, who are 14th after losing to the Roosters for the fourth time in a row on Sunday.
But Webster said his team will stay to their guns ahead of Sunday’s game against the Panthers, and he believes there is still time to find the ‘Wahs’ of 2023.
“It’s the most difficult time; confidence is low, and we’re not playing the way we want to. “We’re not hiding behind it,” Webster told reporters ahead of Magic Round.
“Are we satisfied with how we want to accomplish things? Yes. Are we doing it? No. So I need to be innovative, instill confidence, and get enthused to get these men interested about doing it.
“I don’t want everyone to be nervous and tense about four losses; instead, I want to look at how we regain our identity, how we can be proud of ourselves, and how we leave the field and everyone says, ‘OK, that looked like the Warriors tonight.'”
“But it cannot be accomplished by looking left or right or waiting for someone else to do it. The guys must assume responsibility for both their individual and the team’s roles.
“And it can be 100 per cent achieved this weekend, definitely.”
