Iowa City, Iowa – The West Virginia Mountaineers resumed spring football practice outside on Monday morning and will continue through Wednesday and Friday this week.
Coach Neal Brown’s team will have 14 consecutive workouts till April 25 before playing the annual Gold-Blue Spring Game at Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday, April 27.
Last Thursday, Brown stated that he had done few media interviews and no social media since his team defeated North Carolina 30-10 in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Wednesday, December 27.
“It’s been a while, and it’s kind of been that way on purpose,” he told me. “I know I did one podcast and maybe one radio deal, but I believe head coach weariness is real among the media. I
“It’s been a while, and it’s kind of been that way on purpose,” he told me. “I know I did one podcast and maybe one radio deal, but I believe head coach weariness is real among the media. I know it’s for our squad at times, so I don’t stand up and preach to our players as much in the winter.”
Brown stated that his team had a good winter, using that time to modify body compositions and prepare his players for the various phases of the offseason before preseason practice began in August.
In the offseason before preseason camp, players go through three phases of development: winter conditioning, spring practice, and summer conditioning.
“Over the last nine weeks, that group has really led what we’ve been able to do,” she said. “When you see our guys when you get out here, you are going to see some significant differences in some body compositions and body weights.”
Brown stated that spring practice is one of his favourite periods of the year.
“It’s a great opportunity to teach because you don’t have the pressure to prepare and get ready for a game,” he added. “Practices are not going back-to-back and so it’s always been one of my favourite times.”
Spring training will begin a week later than normal this year because Brown wanted to give the players a week to recover from the winter fitness programme.
He described last week as the team’s “buffer week.”
“The two previous years we’ve had some soft-tissue injuries, so we noted that we really needed to do a buffer week and that’s why everything is slid back a week,” he said.
“This is a teaching time for us,” Brown went on. “We haven’t done much football leading up to spring, and we want to teach guys how to meet, walk through and practise as we get ready for the season.” There will be several events, particularly on the special teams side, where we will divide the entire team into four groups and hold special team competitions. There will be numerous competitions based on position and offence versus defence.
As always, there

As always, there will be a strong emphasis on individual foundational work.
“We are preparing for the season, so we will install our base offence, base defence, and base special teams schemes and then try to replicate it, not only a look for our defence that our offence offers, but also stuff that they will see later in the season. It’s the same on offence,” he explained.
Regarding personnel evaluations, Brown stated that the coaching staff must determine who can play where before beginning summer workouts and fall training camp.
“We need to find out who we can count on and if we need to move guys around,” he said. “On defence, we need to know what some of our subpackages will look like. Finally,
