“He began abusing me following our first Super Bowl victory,” the Dallas Cowboy superstar’s wife describes her terrible experience with domestic abuse.
The ex-wife of former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Nate Newton has revealed in a biography the domestic abuse that plagued her life following the player’s first Super Bowl victory.
Living with her ex-husband through the late 1980s and early 1990s, Dorothy Newton writes about how he changed in her new book, Silent Cry: the actual story of abuse and betrayal of an NFL wife.
The three-time Super Bowl champion and Ms. Newton were wed for eight years, but they spent a total of fourteen years together.
Dorothy Newton, left, and her husband, Dallas Cowboys player and three-time Super Bowl winner Nate Newton, right, have written a book in which she describes the abuse she endured at home.
Ms. Newton stated the following in an interview with Sports Illustrated about her book: “Ironically, there was a lot of verbal abuse at first, and I didn’t recognize it as abuse.” Following the first Super Bowl victory, there was violence. We actually got married in January 1992, and we won three Super Bowls together while I was dating Nate. It had all begun by the fall season. Though I could see indications, I believe that was the first time he had physically harmed me, as the verbal abuse had started earlier.
“I really think there’s a deeper reason for the abuse and the things he did to me.” Success, community, and the sports bubble, in my opinion. I’m not apologizing. Numerous pressures are present. It occurred frequently.
According to Ms. Newton, it was evident that her spouse lacked moral integrity and had even been arrested for DWI and DUI.
