Sensi is now on the verge of a move to the King Power Stadium after being strongly connected with the club recently.
Leicester City are close to signing Inter Milan midfielder Stefano Sensi, according to Fabrizio Romano’s update on X.
The Foxes were very busy during the summer and despite the amount of movement there was at the King Power Stadium during the previous window, with a number of key players departing, Enzo Maresca has still been able to be successful with his team.
There’s no doubt that the quality of their summer additions has helped them, with Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu both shining for much of the season, but they can be pleased about the fact they are currently sitting at the top of the Championship table.
However, there could be a few signings they need to make during the January window to ensure they have enough depth in all areas, with Maresca likely to want to add to his squad and replace anyone who leaves.
Their midfield is one position that could benefit from being strengthened following the departure of Cesare Casadei, who was scheduled to spend the entire season in the Midlands but has been recalled early by Chelsea this month.
Fellow Italian Sensi now looks set to close in on a move, having been heavily linked with a switch to Leicester this month.
Fabrizio Romano on Leicester City’s move for Stefano Sensi
Romano has revealed that Leicester are set to recruit the midfielder – and will pay around €2m to lure him away from Italy.
Maresca is very keen to get this deal over the line and that feeling is mutual with the player already agreeing personal terms in his quest to finalise a switch to the second-tier league leaders.
The “final proposal” is yet to be complete, but Sensi is now on the verge of moving.
He will need to undergo a medical before finalising this switch, although that may only be a formality if no issues are flagged.
Leicester City’s next steps in the transfer market
Because their squad is already so strong, Maresca probably doesn’t need to do much else in the transfer market.
A left-back may not be needed if Luke Thomas stays with the Foxes, but a central defender could be very useful if Harry Souttar leaves before the end of the window.
Souttar will be focused on the Asia Cup at the moment though, so it would be a surprise to see him leave.
Sensi may be coming in, but another central midfielder to replace Dennis Praet may also be required if the Belgian man departs.
And looking to the longer-term, the forward department may need looking at with Patson Daka being linked with a move away this season, Jamie Vardy now 37 and Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract expiring at the end of the season.
