After ten years at King Power Stadium, the 35-year-old former England striker says he did not hesitate to put pen to paper.
He declared, “I’m obviously over the moon,” to LCFC TV. There was only going to be one thing that happened, and that was my signing it, once I found out it was something the club was considering. Making the choice was simple.I feel like I’ve been here long enough to be considered furniture now. You can probably tell that things are going to get better based on the way the team is playing and where they want to go.I was thrilled to continue being part with that. It’s all about this now.”My legs are still feeling great so I’ll carry that on helping the club as much as I can, whether that’s scoring or assisting, that’s what I’m here to do.”
After spending £1 million to join Leicester in May 2012 from then-non-league Fleetwood, Vardy has played a significant role in the team’s ascent to prominence.
Since then, he has made 387 club appearances and netted 164 goals in all competitions.
Two seasons later, when the team shocked the football world by winning the title, he scorched 24 goals in all competitions, including 11 in a row in the Premier League to surpass Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record. Sixteen of those goals came as the Foxes achieved promotion to the top level in 2014.After scoring 23 goals, he became the oldest winner of the Premier League’s Golden Boot in 2019–20 and assisted Leicester in making it to the quarterfinals of the Champions League the following season.
Vardy, who won the FA Cup and Community Shield, played 26 games and scored seven goals for England before declaring his retirement from the national team in 2018.
