Luke Robinson of St Johnstone blocked Daizen Maeda’s close-range shot on the line, and both Celtic players and supporters insisted they should have been awarded a spot kick.
Robinson’s arm looked to have been struck by the ball, however the defender was in close proximity to the shot and had his arm near to his body.
After reviewing the footage, VAR officer Chris Graham decided not to request a review of the incident, and referee Euan Anderson dismissed calls for a penalty.
Additionally, veteran Premier League referee Gallagher concurred on Sky Sports that Robinson should not have received a penalty because it would have been “too harsh.”
He explained: “I have to say this is a common sense decision.
“The referee is correct, and as you can see, it hits his arm, putting him on the goal line.
“There’s no way he can escape that. A referee is required to show a red card after awarding a penalty.
It’s simply too severe. What’s a garden separating them, exactly?
“I believe the referee made the correct decision because he was unable to prevent the ball from hitting him.
