The 2023 regular season of Pittsburgh Steelers standout edge rusher T.J. Watt was cut short due to an MCL sprain, but Watt still managed to set yet another record.
After Week 18, Watt is now officially the NFL’s leading sacks leader with 19, making history as the first player to lead the league in sacks on three separate times. With 15 sacks in 2020 and 22.5 sacks in 2021, he lead the NFL in sacks and matched the previous official record set by Michael Strahan in 2001.
The NFL sack leader, J.J. Watt, and his brother Strahan were among the six players who had previously shared the record for most seasons, but Watt broke that tie. Each of the other players had achieved the feat twice in their careers. With 17 total yards, Watt was tied with Trey Hendrickson of Cincinnati going into the last weekend. However, Watt had two sacks before leaving the game against the Ravens due to a knee injury. With 36 quarterback hits during the season, Watt also held the record.
